Editor-in-Chief and CEO: Rocky Reichman

Rocky Reichman, 20, is Editor-in-Chief and CEO of Literary Magic. Rocky founded Literary Magic at 15. He has authored numerous columns on etymology and linguistics. At 16 The New York Times columnist William Safire dubbed Rocky a “word maven” after one of his editors forwarded Safire a sample article. Shortly after, Rocky was invited to intern on the Online Media team at The McGraw-Hill Companies in the Marketing and Product Development department, to help them build, grow and innovate their online publications. In Fall 2009, Rocky worked on Marketing and PR at electronics/robotics startup Narobo. In Spring 2010, Rocky joined the Brandeis student-run newspaper The Justice, where he reported and interviewed best-selling crime novelist Patricia Cornwell, former presidential candidate and chairman of the DNC Howard Dean and entrepreneur Michael Granoff, Head of Oil Independence Policies for startup Better Place. Currently, he interns as a Research Assistant for the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism while working on his novels and Literary Magic. Rocky was also elected as Communications Coordinator for Brandeis Hillel, where he will serve starting Fall 2010.
 

Rocky is a young, dynamic socially motivated entrepreneur who has a passion, purpose and deep appreciation for ideas and creativity, linguistics, words, the arts and humanities as they pertain to words, from the idea stage to how those words emerge into the public domain, whether written or spoken.

 

Rocky’s fascination with writing emerged at age 12 after a reading the novel Magician: Apprentice. This book inspired Rocky to write his first novel. That took 3 years. His second novel took 3 days (67 hours to be exact).

 

A sought after literary consultant, Rocky has authored dozens of articles in total in a variety of categories and published for organizations including Firstwriter newsletter, Whisper Poetry and LiteraryForums.org. He also served at the Executive Editor for his High School Magazine and helped found a local Writer’s Workshop in his local community. His advocacy work and selflessness has not gone unnoticed as Rocky was the recipient for the New York State Attorney General’s “Triple C” Award for “Courage, Character and Commitment,” and also received his high school’s English Literature Award.
